As you may know, this temple was built during 8th and 9th century and it took about 75 years to build. It was built as a Buddhist temple, it is a shrine to Buddha and a site of Buddhist pilgrimage. There are 504 Buddha statues, many of them are missing heads as they were taken away by early explorers. Now they can be found all over the world in different museums. Indonesia has made efforts to get some of them back, I doubt we will see even half of them returned. The temple was abandoned in 14th century and lay under volcanic ash and jungle until it was rediscovered by the British colonists in 1814. There is so much to say about this temple and I wouldn’t be the best source on its history and architecture. All I can say is that is breathtaking, every level is beautiful. You can easily spend the whole morning or afternoon just walking around and taking pictures. Sumber

Bercakap tentang Bobobudur tak sah kalau tak mengaitkannya dengan Raffles.

The protection of the property is performed under Indonesian Law No. 11/2010 concerning Cultural Heritage and its surrounding cultural landscape. It is executed under a National Strategic Area and the Spatial Management Plan by the Ministry of Public Works in accordance with the Law concerning Spatial Management No. 26/2007 and Governmental Regulation No. 26/2008 concerning National Spatial Planning and will be enforced further by another presidential regulation regarding the Management for the Borobudur National Strategic Area that is still being drafted by the Ministry of Public Works. Borobudur, a name deriving from an expression meaning 'Mountain of accumulation of merits of the ten states of Bodhisattva' is commonly thought of as a Buddhist structure, yet its initial construction was planned and conducted by Hindu builders sometime around 775 AD. The enormous first and second terraces were completed by a declining Hindu dynasty, construction was then halted for some years, and later, from 790 to 835 AD, the Buddhist Sailendra dynasty continued and finally completed the great stupa.
